Our Story

We are a fifth-generation dairy farm in South Florida that bottles our milk. We believe in caring for the cows and the land. We want to offer our customers communication, openness, and education.

Sutton Milk is a family-owned milk company started by Sutton and Kris Rucks and their children, Lindsey and Garrett. We bottle milk from our family dairy farm, Milking R.

While Sutton Milk is a new enterprise, the family has deep roots in the South Florida dairy industry dating back to 1923. Thomas Burel Rucks, a father of 16, moved to Florida to pursue his dream of dairy farming. In 1928, one of his sons, Emmett Rucks, and his brothers started their own farms. Throughout the Great Depression Emmett and his new bride, Glen Rebecca Sutton worked in the dairy industry and unsuccessfully attempted to bottle their milk.

In 1952, Emmett and Glen, along with their four teenage sons, bought a 350-acre farm in Deerfield Beach, Florida. In 1958 the family and the herd relocated to Okeechobee, Florida.

For over 60 years, the Rucks family has been dairy farming on Highway 98 in Okeechobee. Sutton Milk is truly a tribute to our families’ legacy -  past, present, and future.

Sutton and Kris

Sutton is a fourth-generation dairy farmer and the driving force behind Sutton Milk. Sutton wanted to be a dairy farmer since he can remember and feels lucky to be living his dream. He and his wife Kris have been running the family business for over 30 years and couldn't imagine a life without cows. The couple's dairy farming passion, knowledge, teamwork, and determination have helped a successful family business continue to grow and thrive.

Lindsey

Lindsey Rucks, known around here as “the farmer’s daughter,” is the creative force behind Sutton Milk’s growing ice cream line. A 2012 graduate of the University of Florida with a degree in Agricultural Communications, Lindsey started out caring for calves and managing daily farm life. But over the past three years, her focus has shifted to something sweet—developing small batch handcrafted ice cream that quickly grew a loyal following. Today, Lindsey leads a thriving business selling ice cream at the farm store and wholesales to farmers markets across the state. Sutton Milk’s dairy products—and soon, the ice cream—are making their way into coveted grocery chain Fresh Market. Lindsey also leads the farm’s marketing and social media, sharing her passion for cows, community, and creamy goodness. Whether she’s in the barn or behind the counter, Lindsey is always eager to share her passion for cows, community, and dairy done right.

Garrett

Garrett Rucks is a fifth-generation dairy farmer who plays a vital role in the daily operations at Milking R Dairy. From cow care and crop production to equipment maintenance and logistics, Garrett knows every inch of what keeps the farm running. He also manages the family’s beef cattle operation—a lifelong passion that began when he was just a boy. Garrett is deeply committed to the health and well-being of the cows and is constantly seeking ways to improve animal care. He has championed the use of modern technology to bring Milking R into the future of dairy farming, which has made milking more efficient, streamlined, and cow-friendly. When he’s not in the barn or on a tractor, you’ll likely find him on horseback or out in the field with his German Shorthair Pointer Huck or spending time with his better half Katherine. Garrett’s mission is to honor his family’s legacy while helping Sutton Milk grow through innovation, stewardship, and a love for the land.

6th Generation

The future of Sutton Milk is already on the move—sometimes on tiptoes and tiny boots! Meet Warner (age 3) and Piper (18 months), the sixth generation of our dairy farming family. Whether they're peeking into the barn or tagging along for ice cream deliveries, these little farmers-in-training are growing up surrounded by cows, community, and the values that built this farm. Their giggles and curiosity remind us why we do what we do—and who we’re doing it for.
